Underground City        Outdoor Museum - Cave Churches        Pottery Factory

Underground City

IMG_1301.JPG (22178 bytes)  The Underground City was occupied for over 1000 years for periods up to 6 months when invaders came to conquer the people.  One of the cities has 9 layers of floors.  The rooms are accessed by narrow tunnels with giant stone tablets to roll into place to block the entrance.  The ceiling has tubes with notches in the sides to climb up to the next level.

Outdoor Museum of Churches  The Greek population inhabited Cappadocia for the last 1000 years.  Each family had it's own church, many painted with frescoes.
